ABOUT DARLA BURNS

FOUNDER OF DOULA UNIVERSITY (R)

My name is Darla Burns and I have been married since 1994 and have 2 wonderful children. I have been passionate about birth as long as I can remember. I started doing doula work in 1990 but only realized in 2003 that there was a name for the work I was doing. I immediately took my training to be a Certified Labor Doula and then continued on that path and became a Certified Postpartum Doula, Certified Childbirth Educator, Certified Happiest Baby on the Block Instructor, Infant Massage Instructor, and a Certified Lactation Educator.

In 2007, I became CAPPA Postpartum Doula Faculty and began holding Postpartum Doula Trainings in California. In 2013, I founded Doula University and beginning in 2025, I will begin training postpartum doulas under that organization name (Doula University, LLC).

I have trained nearly 900 Postpartum Doulas nationwide!

From 2009-2013, I served as the Executive Director of Postpartum Doulas for CAPPA where I managed the Postpartum Doula Program and Faculty in the U.S. in Canada. From January 2016 through June 2017, I served as Vice President of the non-profit doula organization Doulas Association of Southern California.

In 2022, I began my studies to become a Lactation Consultant, and through that process, I began offering pro-bono lactation support to low-income families at Pure Births Birth Center in Valencia, CA.

I hold Postpartum Doula Trainings and Lactation Intensives throughout the state of California and surrounding areas. I also offer virtual options to reach students nationwide.

My Doula University® Postpartum Doula Trainings have been approved for certification by Perinatal Professionals Association and also have been approved for Nursing CEUs.
